First Shops at Reynolds Way

The shops at Reynolds Way were first recorded in the 1965 Abingdon Directory, and at that time, not all the units were taken.

The first shops were P. Holmes & Son, Bakers and Confectioners, their third shop.

Back in the 60s most towns seemed to have small shopping areas like this in the residential suburbs with basic food shops.

Yes – when Peachcroft was first built they had a butcher, baker, greengrocer, off-licence as well as the supermarket. Even now that area is better provided for than later developments.
Sadly proposals to move back in that direction are being treated with suspicion by many people!
