Boats, Bus tickets and sunset

The day was chilly. No stalls on the Market Place. But later, a couple of boats from AV Boats on the River Thames took out some hardy people.

We caught the bus to Oxford to buy art materials that used to be so much better at Prices – a much-missed shop. Bus tickets are currently £2 as part of a government-financed scheme to get people onto buses.

Then for a walk as the setting sun shone through the clouds behind St Helen Church.

Fair play for getting the bus. Personally I can’t stand it…an absolute last resort… ”cancelling my plans” is higher on the list than bus… But that’s just me.

FWIW Lewis Baker and B&M are both good for art supplies – depending what you need of course.

The motion makes me feel bilious, ne sick. The stop start nature. The declaration towards a green traffic light. The max 15mph trundle. The liquid running down the windows that is the physical manifestation of other people’s breath and farts. In our acutely post COVID world, When, exactly, was that “stop button” last disinfected…or the hand rail, or the seat… Can you really trust that other person to have washed their hands after using the loo? And who most recently did have their dirty shoes on that seat? And why would I want to endure that particular scenario all to someone else’s timetable?

I get that sometimes the bus is the only or best solution…but it would never be my “choice” unless it really has to be. If the bus was the actual only really option….I would sincerely and genuinely question my desire to get there in the first place.

If I can’t drive, walk, or cycle… I’m not sure I’d get the bus instead.

    But that’s just me.
