Today we wore our wellington boots because gusty winds and heavy rain continued. On Stert Street, the surface water was splashed towards pedestrians and shops.
Surface water was also on this corner of Park Road and Conduit Road.
Lighter showers are predicted tomorrow.
Splashing pedestrians is a Highway Code offence. We should drive slowly through standing water.
That is never much fun as a pedestrian.
NO Very true, But if the roads and drains cant handle the conditions what do you expect the drivers to do?
Stop to let the pedestrian pass beyond the puddle. That’s being polite.
Or drive slowly enough in order to make a minimal wash.
Great if you see it in time.
It’s been raining heavily, and you’re not looking out for puddles? How about an advanced driving course?
The car in the picture has left a wash over the pavement which suggests that the driver was not really thinking or anticipating.
Maybe if drains were regularly cleaned this would help the problem? as most in abingdon town and surrounding roads are blocked and have been for years
Notwithstanding pedestrian assault and ignoring the presence of minor potholes, failing to drive slowly through large puddles will spoil your whole driving experience when you encounter a lifted/missing manhole cover hiding under the surface !
‘Today we wore our wellington boots’. Do you have a five year old who writes for you?
No, I manage this on my own as a 65 year old.
