Bob was a popular entertainer, with singing and a few jokes, at the Trinity Evergreens Christmas Party. Bob said it had been his first performance in three years, since the start of the Covid pandemic. The afternoon also included a Secret Santa gift exchange, food, and carols.
The Evergreens at Trinity Church meet on the third Monday of every month. They have been able to arrange transport by taxi to and from the Club when and where it was needed for members, thanks to the generosity of a grant from the Oxfordshire Community Foundation. At the end of the summer, this enabled a visit to Millets Garden Centre.
The Mayor of Abingdon, Cllr Andy Foulsham, will host a party for Abingdon residents aged 70 and over at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Hilton Garden Inn has generously provided a free venue and refreshments.
It is very difficult usually to find out about these things. I phoned Age Concern as one of my neighbours who is in her 90’s but mobile, lost her husband and I wanted to find out if Abingdon had a luncheon club for the elderly. She does not have transport. The person from Age Concern said that Abingdon does not have a luncheon club.
How does one find out about the Mayor’s Christmas party?? When is it?
And if it’s for all over-70’s, why isn’t the electoral register used to identify the eligible citizens and to send out invitations?
How much would that cost? There’s been a lot of publicity albeit mostly online, but most over 70s would know someone who could tell them about it surely.
It was today. It was advertised in the Town Crier magazine which came out earlier this month – other than that, the Town Council mainly use their website and Facebook to publicise their events – not so great for those who don’t like Facebook, but as anyone who tries to organise non-commercial events these days knows, it is really difficult to find cost-effective ways of publicising them.
