Aldi dig a big hole

After getting planning permission, work has started on the Aldi Store off the Wootton Road, in the former circus field, in Abingdon.

Thanks to Daniel who has a video to show the start of work.

The more competition the better. Tesco prices have gone up. At least we will have a choice of supermarkets to shop in.

Price rises due to a number of factors, the supply chain costs have increased due to the increased red tape as a result of leaving the EU as well as increased labour costs ( also partly due to leaving the EU, ie the lack of drivers pushing up prices ) and global issues like oil prices. So not one thing, but yet again Brexit hasn’t helped.

Not a bad thing to have a supermarket in North Abingdon…..less of a need to travel to Tesco and Lidl. I seem to remember a lot of people on here complaining about traffic problems if lidl was given approval to build there.

It looks like they may be starting drainage (attenuation tank), although cannot be certain from the photo. Interesting if they are starting work as they have not discharged all the pre commencement planning conditions yet and hence ‘development’ should not have commenced (there is a legal definition of development so some things are allowed).

I know that the circus was often in that field but we’ve never called it the ‘Circus Field’.
It’s always been the ‘Lapwing field’ in our house. Haven’t seen a lapwing there for a long time now though.
