Charter Public Conveniences Out of Order

Charter Public Conveniences
Somebody took the trouble to write me a letter to say that the public conveniences at the Charter car park in Abingdon are out of order and have been for some time.
Charter Public Conveniences
Essential maintenance work at the multi-storey Charter car park has been ongoing since 3rd March but, the writer says, ‘that effects level 3 and above, not the ground floor.

An issue with the public conveniences was raised on Fix My Street on 28th March 2021. I can see no progress update on fix my street, or the Charter car park website.

The writer says ‘It is rather inconvenient!’

Quite honestly the lack of a public toilet in Abingdon is a disgrace. People have been complaining for a long time about the state of the toilets in the multistory. Disabled people and the elderly need a toilet. What are our councellors doing about this problem? They have not bothered in the past.

We visted the public conveniences in Didcot Orchard Centre yesterday. Spotlessly clean. Hot water, soap etc. Why such a difference between South Oxfordshire and the Vale when they seem to work together a lot of the time.
The Abingdon public toilets have been a disgrace for a long time.

The problem is said to be with drains under the road, together with vandalism of temporary WCs:
“I can only apologies for the current closure of the toilets but we are having a problem with the drains which has caused the recent closures.
Once again I can only apologies for the delay in getting them repaired but it was not a simple problem within the toilets but an issue with the pipe work buried in the road way in at least 2 places, which has taking time to identify, this is what is currently causing the delay in repairing the issue . We are now having further delays in appointing people qualified to undertaken the repairs, particularly as it is in a roadway.
We have investigated installing temporary toilets in the area but previously when portable toilets has been installed locally they has become a target for vandalism, who not only do not use the facilities correctly but also turned them upside down, which means that their contents are split onto the street.
I can ensure you that I am trying to get the required repairs undertaken as quickly as possible”
