CATtitude

Churchyard Cat
Those green eyes out-stare me from between the tombstones.

The churchyard cat is often to be seen in St Helen’s Churchyard among the graves and wandering freely along the pavements and gardens beyond.
Churchyard Cat
It helps itself to rats, and mice, and might honour you with a visit in return for some food.

It does not look to be the sort of cat to curl up on your lap. It is aloof and has cattitude.

You have made my wife and I’s day! We used to live in the St Helens Mill flats down by the church a few years ago and we loved this cat so much. We’ve been away for about three years now and we feared the worst, but it’s so great to know he’s still alive!

I also still follow your blog, even after having lived there for so many years. It’s great to see updates about Abingdon, as we enjoyed our time there so much.

If it is disgusting, seriously unhealthy and totally unacceptable to not clear up after your dog, why is it ok to have a cat that then goes and poos in your neighbours garden?

I have decided that the answer is to simply allow people to have their dogs poo in people’s front gardens when out for a walk. Just like cats do.

Sadly Daniel, cats don’t behave like dogs and can’t be walked on a lead. Does hedgehog poo bother you, fox poop maybe? ….. as that’s no doubt in your garden too yet nobody ever grumbles about that. And nobody ever moans about horse poop left on the roads, and lets face it – heaps of it!!!

All species poop, but of course humans being the superior of them all are more concerned about their neat gardens than learning to live side by side with animals who we share our world with.

Easiest fix re cat poop – get your own cat as it’ll keep others off your garden.

I hear ya’ but I have to say that… I don’t really notice hedgehog poo, so I am neither offended or heartened by it.
Ditto fox poo – although I believe it is pretty pungent stuff.
I have not yet seen a horse in my garden, so again cannot really comment.

Although I am indeed a superior human, I do not have a tidy garden. Having said that, the wafting scent on a hot summers day of cat poo does put me off my Stella.

For what it is worth, I HAVE seen a cat on a lead round here. I don’t think it is the lead that is the issue though.

I don’t want a cat – as I would feel a little bad about it pooing in my neighbours gardens…as, although a super human…I can still empathise.

I have found sprinkling chilli powder where the cats go has helped. As does running out at night in my pants and slippers with a bucket of water. See…a superior human.
