Over 70s Christmas Party

The Abingdon Over 70s Christmas Party is held every year at the Guildhall. It is hosted by the Mayor and the Town Council.

A lot of the councillors help during the morning to lay tables, put food on plates, and fill gift bags. The Over 70s arrive for the start of the party by about 2 PM.
There are performances, food, and a raffle… The first performance was from St Nicolas School performing, among others, their now well known Bun Throwing Song. The mayor said their musical about the school and Abingdon’s history was for him a highlight of the 450th Anniversary year.
There were also performances by Our Ladies Convent orchestra, the Abingdon Choral singers, and these belly dancers from Swinburne Road dance studios..
The food was served. The advantage of the bag is that anybody who is not hungry there and then has a ready-made doggy-bag.
After the food, the deputy mayor, announced the arrival of a very special guest to present the raffle prizes (the deputy mayor is the one holding the microphone).
Then on the way out everybody got a gift bag. Most made their own way, but there was a coach for anybody who needed it.
