Walk near the Water Treatment Works

These houses at the Abingdon Marina can be seen on the far side of a former gravel pit, as night fell. There was a little drizzle of rain.

Close by, these settlement ponds were only added recently to the Water Treatment Works.

The Abingdon drainage system and sewage works south of Abingdon were originally planned and laid out in the 1870s. In Victorian Abingdon the sewage works would have been some way out of town, but Abingdon has grown.

On the other side of the treatment works are the Drayton Road Allotments – just beyond that barbed wired gate. The allotments were moved from near Drayton Road, when Preston Road was completed, and the name stuck although no longer geographically correct.

Allotments around here look embattled; nevertheless a battle worth fighting. Abingdon has 3 sites and perhaps later in the Spring you can give them some publicity on this excellent blog!

2 or 3 times a year I like to cycle past the marina and down the path that leads to that waterworks and comes out at sutton courtenay – it's a nice ride.

beautiful pictures. I think the biggest source of water pollution is Industries. Industrial sector is consuming vast amount of water. Major problem with industrial water usage is a huge percentage out of this water consumed leads to production of wastewater which may or may not degrade quality of nearby resource. Industrial water treatment Consultant should be consult in this regard. nompt

I used to cycle part of the Hanson Way to Milton Park when I worked down there. Great for seeing wildlife early in the morniong.

It's a bit spooky in winter though, cycling the return leg when it's pitch black!
