The Sisters of Swing entertained the people gathered at the Abingdon Royal British Legion before the Battle of Britain Classic Car run.

About fifteen cars took part in the drive organised by George Haslam. There were not only a variety of MGs, but also a Rover, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, Morris, Austin,

and a classic Aston Martin, with a hand crank starter, called Betsie.

The plan was to drive from the Royal British Legion, on Spring Road, to the Lodge Hill Garage to see the Spitfire, and then to Bridge House, on Thamesview, for tea and a chance for the residents to view the cars.

Always interesting to take an MG out in Abingdon and today was no exception. I met someone who pointed to the bits on the back of our B that he’d fitted, whilst telling me that his wife had trimmed the seats and another man informed me that he’d worked on the back axle! We finished the day at Bridge House care home where the residents greeted us in the car park waving flags whilst inside they’d laid on afternoon tea for us. A fun day out, thanks George Haslam for organising it.

Currently in Chartres and saw and MGA parked up with a Triumph TR4a – both Belgian registration plate. We haave also seen squadrons of Morgans (nearly all Belgian registered) over a week of motoring in France. At the beginning of the week we saw an Austin Healey 100/6 (made in Coventry but assembled in Abingdon), which was a working race car and not a show pony.
