Promoting Whats On in and around Abingdon

Whats On in Abingdon
The Abingdon Information Centre has moved upstairs into the County Hall Museum Sessions hall in Abingdon. I believe this arrangement is for the medium term until something better can be sorted out at the Guildhall. The stairs to the museum might seem a problem for some people but you can use the intercom and the person at the desk will come down to see you.

After finding what was on offer, I booked two tickets for Ma Bessie and Lisa Mills, performing at Cosener’s House on 30th September. There is also an interesting open air performance of A Woman of no Importance at Milton House on Saturday at 5pm.

Looking at Events on the Abingdon on Thames website I see that this coming Saturday the Oxfordshire Chilli Festival is on Abingdon Market Place, with street food and live music.

It is the latest macho pursuit for men. Who can take the hottest chilli. My men colleages used to go to chilli fairs and boast about it. Yes the Community Shop in the Precinct is more accessable to people.

Nice idea, but the Community FreeSpace is volunteer-run by a charity so we get all sorts of exemptions which the Town Council wouldnt get. Also we have no security of tenure – we are on a week’s notice!
It would be great to have a space where the two could combine – an information centre and a larger room which could be used by community groups and also for public-interest exhibitions, consultations, information about planning developments etc.
Personally I think the info centre needs to be close to Bridge Street and the Market Place – where visitors would usually start their time in Abingdon: there are a couple of fairly obvious options in the Guildhall complex…..

I thought there would be a good reason!

There can’t be many venues in Abingdon that the information centre has not occupied at some point
