New Stone Walls in Abingdon

New Walls
A stone wall on Bath Street has been rebuilt in a set back position after the completion of the sixth form extension at Abingdon School.
New Walls
The Nags Head has also got a new stone wharf wall where an old willow trunk caused damage to the previous river bank.
New Walls
That work was done by Greenford Ltd who are also making a new stone wall along the river boundary of Coseners House.

We like our stone walls here in Abingdon.

The river has featured quite a lot recently and as one of our best assets so it should, But its not always as tranquil as it looks and needs respect.
It was Greenfords barge that sank in Clifton lock two weeks ago when the overloaded Boat was swamped by the torrent from the sluices.
Lots of people swimming and paddling in it too, how many are aware of the potentially fatal Weils disease? lLeptospirosis is a type of bacterial infection spread by animals and their urine, usually rats
I contracted 2 years ago after a brief swim here as did a friend who fell into the marina!
Below is a lovely photo of the flowers along St Helens wharf, what it doesn’t show is the flotilla of clapped out boats moored the other side, nor the anti social behaviour of one of their inhabitants! Wonderful first view of the gateway to Abingdon!
On the subject of A S B Abingdon has attracted a less than good reputation on various boating forums with Boat crime and A S B among the popular comments, unfortunately there were more instances of this last weekend when visitors moored just up from the bridge were woken in the early hours by people trying to break in!
All of that said it’s still a beautiful asset.

There’s quite a bit of bank erosion on that side of Nags Island, the speed of the passing river and wash from boats is meaning other bits of retaining wall and the old concrete Salters landing stage are relaxing into the water slowly, not the cheapest pub garden to maintain.
