I spotted this ‘Bansky’ in Abingdon today. I am guessing it is not an original or somebody would have made off with the bin.

In the underpass, mentioned yesterday, there is the official mural and an unofficial mural. The unofficial mural used to be quite dark and threatening but somebody has lightened it up with pastels.

Graffiti on small green BT boxes does not always get removed. This astronaut is a survivor.

On Abingdon’s oldest boarded up window, there is a new addition – next to the graffiti stencil.

The old building along Winsmore Lane is getting worked on and could soon be a ‘Such Cottage’.

I went to a talk by a Street Artist. He showed examples of street art. Unfortunately we do not have any budding Banksys or Sticks in South Abindon. We mainly get tagged. Thats people spraying their initials to say we have been here. This is very unsightly. Psychologists have studied the broken window theory. This is if there is a broken window or graffiti in the area people get the message that this area is uncared for and anything goes so they will litter and dump old mattresses and the area will go downhill. We have had a fight in South Abingdon to rectify graffiti and broken street signs. My son visited and said that the area looked downhill as there were weeds growing out of the pavements. The council did employ contractors to get rid of the weeds.

I notice the Guildhall has been tagged by the same person as that pictured in the article below. A few months ago I mentioned to one of our community policing team that one of the alcoves had become a gathering place for some of the youth in the town, the response was one of ‘if they’re not doing any harm then leave them alone’. Seems TVP are only here to keep the peace, spineless.

Janet – Regarding street cleaning it would seem the Council are relying on the goodwill of the people to do their job for them, imagine my surprise and annoyance then whilst visiting a residential street in Kidlington and seeing a street sweeper/gulley emptier going about it’s business, the place looked a lot tidier and cared for.
We are soon to see a 6% Council Tax rise and for little or no visible return to us the people.

Residents of the Fitzharrys estate get together once a month to do such things as remove weeds from between pavement slabs and have a general tidy up.
There are no resources available from local government.
