Sales

Sales
The red sale signs are out again in Abingdon shops as we near the end of 2017. The sales appear to be mostly clothing,

and Christmas stock. I am not sure what happens to Christmas stock that does not get sold.

This is also a time when travel companies try to get us to book holidays and so there are enticements. Families may find sales deals with free kids places.

I see in the Oxford Mail, that the Council’s/Vales favourite builder has requested double the time to pay back what they owe the town….because even though their luxury million pound apartments sold before they were even finished, their restaurants haven’t all been let yet. So this means that the Council will not be able to develop the social housing at Old Abbey House….that is if CH are allowed to to renege on their promise. Well they already have on the replacement willow tree…….

Guido, could you provide the internet address of the Oxford Mail reference? I’ve had a quick search of their site and found nothing, though this tasty morsel might be hidden in another article.

The article appeared briefly online on Saturday.!
However the VOWHDC planning application reference is P17/V3367/MPO, registered on 21st December 2017 The Covering Letter under Application contains the relevant information.

Come on Abingdonians. We are used to promises that come to nothing. Oxford City Council are looking to Abingdon to accept their quota of new housing so promises of the diamond interchange at Lodge Hill are thown about. We surely cannot have such guilable people on our councils.

Thank you, Guido and Byker Rode. Follow the latter’s directions and there it is folks!

Interesting that it only appeared ‘briefly’. I’m assuming that the demand for advertising space in the Oxford Mail is such that they no longer have space for this morsel of editorial …

Thanks Guido and Byker – very interesting and we could easily have missed it as a result of CH clever timing. I imagine that, unless Councillors show an interest, this sort of thing will be decided by officers – and note that the target decision date is 18 January. So probably a good idea for those who are concerned to contact Vale Councillors – especially those on the Planning Committee. Details are easy to find on the Vale website.

Very interesting that it WAS actually online…but has now been removed? Even if you do a search on Oxford Mail website it doesn’t come up…yet it was half a page in the paper version!
You have to question as to WHY it was removed and on whose instruction?

To think, the Oxford Mail has an ad-blocker plea on their site:

‘Nine out of 10 people looking at this page do not see this message because they support our quality local journalism and are not using an ad-blocker’

Hmm … quality local journalism … now you see it, now you don’t.

I wonder what percentage of the Oxford Mail’s advertising revenue comes from the councils?

Of course the best way to deal with this is for everyone, including your local councillors and M P to object, hopefully the application will be refused and unless C H can pay up council could force them into administration!
Now that would be a happy new year!!
