In Abingdon, three days later, on 25th September 2017 a Charity Shop fire caused a lot of damage. The Abingdon Herald quoted the charity’s coordinator as saying “… it was too early to speculate about the cause, but it is thought the fire might have started outside the front door where a pile of donations had been spotted earlier.”

We often see donations left in the porches of our local charity shops, despite the shops having notices asking people not to leave donations out of hours.

It is a shame that such a sensless act caused so much damage. There is a lot of crime now in Abingdon. Lots of people have reported that they have had their bicycles stolen. I went to Drayton Dump yesterday and it was packed out. They are going to start charging £1.50 per D.I.Y. item from the 1st October. This will cause fly tipping. A man from Didcot was fined for fly tipping asbestos waste off Mill Road in Abingdon.

It’s only really going to affect large scale DIY and ideally the contractor carrying out the work should be taking away your waste, something you need to agree form the outset of any work being done (& checking they have waste licence). Up to three items of DIY waste will be accepted free of charge each month. Each
additional item will be charged at £1, up to a maximum of ten items, eg.(13 items in total per month). Therefore the total would be £10.

On the subject of fly tipping I’ve been watching the pile of rubbish the two chaps in barges moored along wilsham road get bigger and bigger, old bikes, sinks, timber, palest, it’s a disgrace and not a good example of Abingdon if you arrive by river, come on Council get rid !
