A lot has changed in the last year or two on one of Harry’s old dog walks. (I once did a blog called harrydogblog.com featuring Harry.)
Walking along the ridge of the dog walking field, next to Masefield Recreation Ground, the new houses of Morland Gardens can be seen down below.
Another development can also be seen over the fields. The new houses of Walnut Meadow are now visible as the distance between Abingdon and Drayton shrinks.
The first houses of Walnut Meadow, already with people in, stand alongside the bridleway that leads from Mill Road in Abingdon to Drayton.
There are also houses starting to grow next to the farm track that forms a circular walk back to Abingdon.
Looking at the Walnut Meadow development plans I see there is a large space for future sports pitches and a pavilion. Drayton are getting something of community value from their development.
Yes we get a sports pavilion,we also get lots of extra traffic which will make me think do I drive to Abingdon & queue for 40 minutes plus on the Drayton Road or shall I take the quick route to Didcot to shop !.
It’s a nice walk (if a bit muddy at present). I agree that Drayton seem to have got a plan beyond just popping in more houses.
However, the road surface on the exit from Drayton towards Abingdon suffers from poor finishing after pipework was laid some time ago. Cyclists either have to suffer the hedgerow cutting their faces or sit out towards the centre and attract the frustration of motorists. Ho hum!
Yeah….but….does Drayton have free wi-fi?
Doubt it Daniel, but just popped in to the Anchor to see new land lord & lady, very nice too, a refreshing change from the previous incumbent, good beer and wine, a tad expensive but a very very nice pub, at last !
Oh, they have free wi if too !
Drayton does indeed have a plan – they set up a Neighbourhood Plan which gave all interested members of the community a chance to have an input into it from the start – not just to be “consulted” afterwards.
Sadly we still have nothing like that in Abingdon.
Drayton do indeed have a neighbourhood plan that was voted for by the villagers, a high % agreement. Unfortunately the Planning Authority have overruled the Parish Council and allowed at least two further developments within the village boundaries that weren’t part of the plan, does beg the question as to why you bother, the authorities will do what they like anyway…
Ahh, I was thinking of Harry dog recently for some reason. No plans for a successor?
not yet. we always felt guilty leaving Harry when we went out for more than a couple of hours. so may wait until we are retired.
I was wondering too if we’d see another doggy blog ……. I loved reading Harry’s Dog Blog – always made me chuckle.
