A new Co-op store opened on the Northcourt Road in Abingdon on September 1st. (It replaced one of the Budgens food stores recently taken over by the Co-op.)
I missed the launch but have just visited the new store and am now following the CoopAbingdon Twitter feed.
The Coop usually does good food at reasonable prices. I was surprised as Marks and Spencer have announced that they are closing a lot of clothes shops and concentrating on their food sales. The High Street seems very volatile at the moment.
Does it have a post office still?
Yes Annabel
Is this a new look for the COOP? Not the usual green
I remember it being the Co-op forty plus years ago.
I hear Mary Berry is due to visit ( and book sign) the old dairy/ church cafe opposite this week ?
On another note I’ve also heard this week that newly installed Sutton Courtensy turbine/Archimedes screw has so far not produced a spark because of lack of flow from the Thames?
Ck2 – It’s interesting that it can’t operate at the present river level, you’d think the EA could manipulate the sluices to generate the correct level or the height of the screw is wrong presumably also from figures from the EA. The present Cuban level is here https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/station/7083?direction=u
Sorry that should read ‘Culham’ not ‘Cuban’ darned spellchecker! Lol.
Apparently the turbine is only going to turn during the evening/night and only at certain river levels. Therefore mostly in the winter when demand for electricity is at its peak.
Mike – Don’t tell me they have to ‘throw a 6 to start’ it as well… you can also imagine being told by the EA that ‘you can’t use the turbine today, it’s the wrong type of water’ eh?
