Cargo going back to Witney and Somerfield to become the Co-op

Top end precinct changes
Cargo are likely to be out of Abingdon by the end of October – they have a Closing Down Sale. This may tie in with the recent re-opening of Cargo in Witney with a larger premises. Cargo came to Abingdon when the Cargo in Witney closed during the redevelopment of the Witney Woolgate shopping centre.
Top end precinct changes
Somerfield is about to be re-branded as a co-operative food which will mean we will soon have two Co-ops in Abingdon Town Centre.

the cargo seemed like a bit of a jumble sale to me – hopefully something more exciting will replace it – perhaps ( sorry for sounding a bit council – i’m not honest ) a real pound shop, a 99p shop or even a wilkinsons – that would really attract people.

we had a 90p shop – that’s now become wow pound but i’ve never been tempted to buy a thing in there – it seems so very long ago that modern music was in there – a genuinely decent shop.

i heard it was a poundland going into the cargo vacancy……
hope so, but a wilkos would be great. isnt it sad that its the cheap shops now that are the main attraction, but the one in didcot is always very busy…….
wow pound always looks so tacky.
i remember when ledgers was the original cheapo shop in abingdon……

picture of me also on the twitter at top of page where I am in the stocks getting doused with a bucket of water. No more than I deserve at times for such a misleading report as this. The real reason for the move sounds to be that the landlord can get more rent from another short term tenant. We know this building is for redevelopment not too far away. The landlord renamed the Bury Precinct as the Abbey Centre so it is to be hoped the new tenant matches their marketing aims.
