The Old Boat Yard

The Old Boat Yard
The Old Boat Yard is looking overgrown.
The Old Boat Yard
The Ferry Boat House has a new sign to say ‘Land Acquired’ by a new owner.

I would miss this boat house with it’s corrugated sides. It is part of the river view here in Abingdon.

PS. Captainkaos2 found this old photo, dated 1882, of the boat house. It was Roysse’s (now Abingdon school) old boat house.

It would be nice to see it simpathetically converted and featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs or George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. I doubt it though somehow, it’s more likely to follow Annabel’s comment.

I know the new owner of the site, he’s just bought it from the builders who bought it from Mick Cripps, the chandlery owner, they managed to get planning for house at the front and a couple of smallish buildings at the rear containing a number of flats, the new owner plans a sympathetic two bed house at the front and a similar one at the rear, I’ve just sent backstreeter an old photo of the building as it was in 1882 when it was Royses school boat house !

More houses for Abingdon as I have seen a planning application for 93 dwellings on Coldwell drive where Oxford Engineering and UK Mail are currently located. More congestion for South Abingdon ?

Noticed the cute little bungalow further along the road has been razed to the ground. Don’t see many properties like that anymore that had a huge garden and veg patch. Wonder how many houses will be put there instead

Ha ha no Houdini two detached houses, one a brick “skinned ” timber framed build the other a traditional build, but rendered finish, both should look good ?

Thanks for the picture Capt, one that could be re-enacted today by oarsmen from the Abingdon Rowing Club. I’m not sure if Abingdon school boat a coxed four.

We must hope that todays builders develop the site with sympathy for its riverside location.
