Where West is East

West Waddy ADP
Our house has one claim to fame that I know of… It has the same house number as West Waddy ADP – the architects. We often get smartly dressed visitors knocking at the door asking for West Waddy.

West Waddy ADP are in East St Helen Street and we are West St Helen Street. So it is an easy mistake to make. West Waddy are the last house before the river next to the slipway – shown in the picture.

West Waddy have been celebrating, this year, 125 years since their predecessor John George Timothy West began practising in the Knowl off Stert Street. That makes them one of the oldest architectural practises in the country.

A very good story and link to your own house!

I’ve known Philip Waddy for a number of years at West Waddy when their offices were in Bridge Street, before they became West Waddy ADP.

A highly rated and professional practice, I’m an admirer of their work.

once as a kid, i went to a cub scouts meeting in that house – presumably different owners back then. i recall a very pretty courtyard. then the meetings moved to the church building across the road and i never saw it again…

The Courtyard is still there but now leads to 2 houses that were converted back from offices by West Waddy. The larger of the two was owned by a Solicitor called Mr Pryce who had an office in East St Helen Street back in 1899, before then it was a malt house. It was on the market with Oliver James for £850,000 this year, a snip if you ask me…
