During the Guildhall Closure, events and activities that have their usual home at the Guildhall, are dispersed, and so the Charity Christmas Cards can this year be found at St Nicolas Church.
St Nicolas have recently removed some of their pews to make a more flexible community space at the back. St Helen’s Church did something similar, but on a much bigger scale, back in 2004.
Trinity Church removed their pews back in the 1970s so that the church space can be used flexibly by church and community groups. Adfas lectures have moved to Trinity during the Guildhall Closure, and there is a free taster lecture this week.
Tickets for the Over 70s (Free) Christmas Party are now available and, instead of the Guildhall, the party this year is at Preston Road Commnity Centre.
I give it four posts until Janet explains to us why this is all the fault of the EU / foreign aid / immigration.
Looking ahead to the Spring, some events which used to be in the Guildhall will be in the nearby Abbey Buildings – the Clubs and Societies Day for example. There are some other new-style events being planned there – watch this space….
I would love to go to ADFAS talks – but they’re never in the evening.
Well, David, it’s obvious; the pews are being sold off to house people who never go to church and who should therefore have access to the bits of our national heritage.
Alternatively, congratulations to St Nic’s for starting to make the space more like it was before that 18 century woodwork was introduced.
In the meantime, it’s not Advent yet – so why the Christmas cards. Even the Council (dontcha hate em!) have put the lights up yet.
Oh, never mind; have a nice day!
Should have read; the Council have NOT put up the lights yet.
Still have a nice day….
