You will probably know already that this Saturday in Abingdon is Fun in the Park, and Music in the Park, in the Abbey Gardens; and on Sunday the Abingdon Food Festival at Miele.
Peter sent me an email, as a reminder, that Ruby’s Vintage and Retro Fair is also on at the Guildhall from 10-4 on Saturday. Here is a picture I took of Peter and his sister with their stall last time round.
Cars and campers are also gathering at Dalton Barracks this weekend for the Abingdon CAR-nival .
By the way, does anybody know if there are any red telephone boxes left in Abingdon, England. Abingdon, Virginia, now have two and are planning to get more. See the news source here. Perhaps we too need to start buying some back. Visitors from our USA sister city will be very disappointed if they come over here to see our modern replacement phone boxes.
Anyone from USA seeing our Telephone Boxes will be disgusted…..they are filthy
There’s one in Wetherspoons !
telephone boxes are a relic though are they not?
you can’t blame the telephone companies for a lack of effort – there’s not many places to hitch up your horse and cart in the town centre either after all.
it`s not only the few remaining red telephone boxes that look uncared for. Red pillar boxes still exist – thank goodness – but apart from the one in the Co-op in West St Helens Strreet – no longer look smart. Is there a freshly painted one anywhere in town or are they all faded paint and neglected?
The one outside WaItrose looks freshly painted
My Japanese friend (lives in the USA) was over visiting me in February. As we drove through Long Wittenham she spied a red telephone box, so I had to stop whilst she ran and jumped inside, absolutely delighted and I had to photograph her many times. She was also fascinated with the red post box next to it.
Would be nice to see some in Abingdon 🙂
