Saxton Arms – Sale of Fitments

Saxton Arms
The Saxton Arms has now got a sign saying ‘General Store – Now Open’. I was not quite sure what to expect, but could see the ‘Pig Rowe Headquarters’ sign had gone from the front.

Inside they are selling off the pictures and boards, Aunt Sally sets, cleaning equipment and pub handles.

There is also the blackboard that used to stand outside the door – priced at £40.

The pub was recently closed and people are waiting to see what happens next.

About an hour ago I went down, over the curb, like a sack of spuds outside the chip shop in the Market Square. I must have bounced, but when I came to a halt t was like a landed fish and I’d really like to thank the guys from the chip shop who came to my aid. But I’d really, really like to thank the 3/4 lads who came over from the Barclays cash machine and picked up a rather embarrassed and temporarily confused Old Fella. Sorry about the ‘lads’ stuff, but I’m allowed at my age. I thought you were stars and long may you prosper. I owe you a pint. You had ‘grace’.

    I’ve got bruises.

Hope the bruises aren’t too sore. The problem is everything takes longer to heal once you’re past (insert own age!).

Thanks for the sympathy, guys! If that prat-fall didn’t get me on YouTube then nothing will. I’ve got the kinda scabby knees I haven’t had since I was wearing short trousers and my left big toe could be used a a Dulux colour card for all shades in the black/blue/red spectrum.. There’s damage to the top of the toe of my left shoe consistent with tripping on a raised flagstone … I supposed not being able to assume that urban footpaths are level is just a sign of the times.

You are right ppjs, old men don’t bounce.

that’s my bike top picture. Trusty steed. Has only thrown me twice. Once dashing to overtake the leader in the 2012 Abingdon Marathon when I had to brake too suddenly. The other time skidding on gravel just after the Didcot A Cooling towers were exploded.

I too am an OAP and a couple of years ago retired to Abingdon. I live not far from the Saxton Arms and my neighbours warned me not to go for a drink at that pub, as it’s a bit rough!
Let’s hope that its replacement, or whatever, is an improvement.
