Savers opened today on Abingdon High Street.

They offer lots of their products at £1. But they do have products at other prices, below and above a £1.

They are owned by the same multinational company as Superdrug who also have a store in Abingdon.
A really ugly shop on the main road through Abingdon, next door to another grocery shop and opposite the Co-Op!
Poundland competition??. (Poundland have purchased the 99p store, will they rebrand in competition). 🙂
Savers are, in some respects, what Superdrug were – a discount retailer. Superdrug has gone upmarket in recent years while Savers caters for the discount end now with many brand name products cheaper than even the pound shops. I wouldn’t say it was an “ugly shop” – that seems to be the Abingdon snobbery seeping out again.
I agree, aesthetically unappealing
I agree, a very ugly facade, but better than an empty shop. I would be interested to know whether the Town Council have a view on signage and the number of times they have actually limited or determined the look and feel to make sure signage is in keeping with the town’s historic centre.
another cheap shop, not exactly a good addition to the high street, compeition with poundalnd and B&M
I am pretty sure a lot of those items were less than £1 in a well known supermarket when I visited this morning. I wonder if this shop is similar to poundland where many products aren’t actually the bargain they first seem. Certainly not a shop I will be rushing to visit. I was in Abingdon this morning and again was struck by the Town Hall and surrounding old buildings, beautiful. Such a shame the town can’t attract the big name high street shops.
Despite being told that inflation is going down many people have less to spend in their pocket and so are looking for the bargains. In lots of people’s opinions Tesco has become more expensive. Sainsbury’s appear to have come down in price. Didcot has lots of cheap shops and attracts the shoppers. Incidentally I was surprised to find out that many people in Abingdon live in fuel poverty. One woman said that she spends time in the library so that she did not have to have the heating on.
