Please Re-paint Your Sign

Wok Sign
Michael was hoping to get the Magic-Wok Chinese takeaway in Oxford Road to re-paint their sign.

He doesn’t think they’ve had their sign repainted since they set up.

He says “Maybe if you publish one of these pictures it will somehow jog them into action.

There are a few buildings in Abingdon that need a lick of paint. The building that you are faced with on the left hand side as you enter the town from the Nags Head bridge, opposite the Crown and Thistle, just after the police station, looks terrible.
Also, the building on the right hand side as you come down Stert Street. Its white (well supposed to be) just after the old connections building, looks awful. Also that connections building needs knocking down. The bollard things at the top of Stert Street are still there, they also look terrible.
Why can’t the council do something?

Distressed signs are in vogue at the moment. They are always being sought after on these reclamation programmes on ‘Dave’. Might be cheaper selling that one to fund a replacement. 😉

Rafe – ther is a town council grant scheme that contributes towards the costs of shops keeping their frontages in good condition. I dont think the magic wok would be eligible but theother two areas you mention would be. Details are on the town portal.

I like the sign the way it is! And their kitchen is just fine – they are probably preparing my tea for tonight as I speak!

Iain – why doesn’t someone at the town council allocate the resources to sort it out?
Need to pull their finger out.
    No pride.

In the scale of things I can’t say I’m going to lose sleep over this sign over this shop, but I wish the owners of the business well trying to earn a living providing decent food at reasonable prices to the good people of this town.

Sorry Rafe – the councils dont have the power or resource to go and paint people’s houses/businesses for them. As i said there is a grant scheme which assists with the costs of town centre frontages but ultimately its down to the owners of the properties concerned to look after their property.

Like Rafe I am concerned about the ‘don’t drive on this bit or your lorry will disappear into the River Stert beneath the road’ bollards. I can’t imagine the road disappearing into the underground river will do wonders for traffic flow.
Weren’t they supposed to start the work ‘after October 2013’?

If anyone wants t know how the kitchens are rated in your local takeaway, do look at the scores on the doors website. This will tell how the environmental health rate each kitchen, from 1 which means very poor indeed, to 5, which is clean. Some takeaways are trading with a single star, and have kitchens so dirty, I would not really want to eat the food from them!
