Ock Valley Walk has been cleared and new trees planted

Ock Valley Walk
Primroses cluster beside daffodils on a shady bank beside the River Ock opposite the Brewery development.
Ock Valley Walk
The River Ock is back to normal levels. There are still some leaning trees, but the fallen trees have been cleared.

Lots more new trees have been put in by the Green Gym. They will probably be dwarfed by nettles when spring turns to summer.

I walked into Abingdon along the Ock for the first time in a long while last week and was impressed at the work that had been done. It is such a pleasant way to walk into the town.

The walk has certainly received a lot of good care recently. It was good to see how well the path was looking – good, too, to see the Ock less frantic!

    Congratulations to all concerned.

If anyone would like to go on a “Green Gym” guided walk along the Ock Valley there will be an opportunity on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26. This will be one of the Bank Holiday Walks and Tours organised by The Friends of Abingdon with the aid of other societies. This third year will also include the popular nature walk to Radley Lakes with Tea at the Lakes led by the Friends of Radley Lakes, The Lost Abbey Tour with tea at the Abbey Buildings and the 1556 Boundary Walk. Our do-it-yourself Town picture quiz will be available and we hope there will be a longer walk to Sutton Courtenay. The walks are free – but please note you’ll have to pay for the tea! Look out for more information nearer the time.

Hi Pat, I’m fortunate enough to live in River View Terrace, in fact right opposite the daffodils in the photo and you would be amazed at the amount of wildlife we have. King Fisher, a daily Heron, Water Shrew, Wood Mouse, Stoat, and a good helping of Water Voles that we managed to almost tame last season (the local naturalist society filmed them too) Barn and Tawny Owl, Sparrow Hawk, Kite, Buzzard, Dunock, Black Cap, the three types of Woodpecker, plus all the usual garden birds and there are plenty of fish here too, Chub, Dace, Roach, Brown trout and Cray Fish, all on our door step !
