He says “Come and watch the racing and entertainment along the river bank, ample parking and hot and cold local refreshments available all day (Rye Meadow, by Abingdon town bridge). We have fantastic BBQ serving local organic meat, with fresh bread rolls that get delivered to the field that morning. We also serve teas, coffees and cakes all day long, and after 11am we have beer on sale supplied from the local Loose Cannon Brewery.

Abingdon has a great tradition in river sport. 100 years ago you might have gone down to the river to watch the Abingdon Skiff Regatta in July, or the Abingdon School Regatta in June. You can find more of what was happening 100 years ago on the Abingdon Heritage Twitter Feed.

We went to the sprint regatta last summer which was a really fun day out. Great to see the return of head racing – i ‘fondly’ remember the pain from my younger years 🙂

I am looking forward to it ttremendously – a great day out. Let’s hope that the ground in Rye Madow will be nice and dried out by then. Hopefully, this is a sign that things are getting back to normal….lots of Abingdon Events in store I see from the Town Website.

A fantastic event for both the sport and town alike. Such a good way for families to spend an afternoon watching racing in their town and enjoying the local food and drinks available. The burgers are amazing!

This will be the first outing of the year for Abingdon Traditional Morris Dancers, who will be there as usual on Rye Meadow performing traditional Abingdon morris dances, music and offering their expert beer quality control services.
