Bringing Cemeteries to Life

Spring Gardens Cemetery (formerly the New Cemetery) in Abingdon has a new area of marble vaults – each can contain up to two containers of cremated remains.

The area has been landscaped, and the new vaults are provided by The Columbarian Company whose company slogan is ” Bringing cemeteries and crematoria to life.”

Elsewhere in the cemetery catkins are out.

Life goes on.

My late parents are in the garden of rememberance there

I looked into these, when they 1st arrived.

Apparently it is a lease period, the ashes are in the ‘Pod’, after which who knows??. I saw at the crem yesterday, they can ‘convert’ ashes into glass….

Pendants/neclaces and paper-weights, the ideal gift to remember a loved one who worked in an office maybe. Imagine throwing the paperweight in a fit of anger??.

While compiling the service for my late uncle’s funeral my wife came across (and used this) What is Dying?
I am standing on the sea shore.
A ship sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
She is an object and I stand watching her.
Till at last she fades from the horizon.
And someone at my side says, “she is gone!” Gone where?
Gone from my sight, that is all.
She is just as large in the mast, hull and spares as she was when I saw her.
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to her detination. The diminished size and total loss ofsight is in me, not in her.
And just at that moment when someone at my side says, “She is coming”.
And other voices take up a glad shout.
“There she comes” – and that is dying.
    Bishop Brent.

Nothing whatsoever insensitive in that slogan. I think some people go a wee bit out of their way to be ‘insulted’…
