Abingdon Weddings

There were quite a few weddings this year, but here is just one taken at random from Trinity. The bride arrives with her dad at Trinity church to be greeted by the minister.

The minister takes them through the usual promises, but for them they are quite extra-ordinary.

And they leave the church as husband and wife, all ready to be photographed more than 450 times, and that is just the official photographer. One for each year since Abingdon gained the Royal Charter.

Cat Show

Today at the Guildhall was the 50th Cat Show put on by the Oxford and District Cat Club. This lady, dressed up as a cat, had been out and about publicising the event, and she kindly did a cat pose for the camera.

Inside the hall I could not really understand what was going on.

Some ladies in white coats were going around putting endless rosettes on the cages. One lady I recognised but couldn’t place her in mufti.

And up on the stage some other more important judges sat around chatting and scribbling notes. In front of them were four cages:
B.I.S Longhair
B.I.S Shorthair
B.I.S Kitten
B.I.S Rescue
These categories were yet to be decided.

The rosettes however showed that a lot of categories were already decided. Best Black. Best tabby etc.

And the cats appeared to be doing what they do so well – sleep. These ones in the sky blue cage are burmese kittens.

Footpath to Sunningwell

This pictures is near Boulter Drive where a footpath crosses the Abingdon Peripheral Road.

On the left hand side of the footpath is a field that has been recently harvested, and the straw bundled. Beyond the field are the floodlights of Tilsley Park.

On the right is a smaller field with long horned cattle.

You can follow an alternative path down these steps towards Lodge Hill…

Or cross the A34 and walk up across the hill through Radley College in one direction, or carry on to Sunningwell.

Those are the same straw bundles again from the A34 footbridge.
