The Tesco Garden Centre has gone beyond selling koi carp and goldfish and have started to stock livestock for people who want to be a little more self sufficient.
Some chickens have escaped while being carried from checkout to car and have got out onto the A415. And so a new road sign has been erected. So drive carefully this morning – particularly if out near the Marcham Interchange.

Swan watch
This picture from last weekend shows a couple of swans at their nest site on an island near the Abbey Grounds. The duck just stood there and did not appear to be concerned despite those big wings flapping.
Somebody was telling me today they had not seen the swans on the nest for a couple of days now and are growing concerned something may have happened.
Classical Guitarist and Shetland Ponies
A familiar sight and sound in Abingdon is the Classical Guitarist.
Not as frequent, but I have seen them more than once, are these fully-grown Shetland ponies from Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire. Here to raise money for the Phoenix Children’s Foundation. They say the money they raise in Abingdon will be spent on helping children here in Abingdon.
Not on the pitch
At Boxhill Recreation Ground there are three football pitches used by the boys, and girls, of St Edmunds Football Club.
Round the pitch area are four dogbins, the highest concentration of dogbins anywhere in Abingdon.
There are also three notices – including this one next to the Workhouse wall – requesting
“DOG OWNERS
PLEASE EXERCISE YOUR
DOGS AROUND THE EDGE
OF THE FIELD
DO NOT USE THE PITCH AREA”
But before every match or practice the pitches need to be cleared of dog pooh so the children can play football there.
