Return from Afghanistan Medal Parade

Freedom and Medal Ceremony
Around 320 soldiers from the 12th Logistic Support Regiment based in Dalton Barracks, Abingdon held a medal parade in Abingdon to mark the return of all elements of the Regiment from Helmand Province in Southern Afghanistan.

Mr Tim Stevenson, the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, gave out medals and made a short address.

The troops then marched through the town centre led by the Band of the Logistics Corps before attending a church service at St Helens.

Well Being – 2010

Well Being Fayre
I would never have got to the Well Being Centre’s Christmas Fayre if it had not been for Dr Les Clyne handing out leaflets in town to remind people it was on.

There are a number of community groups use the Well Being Centre on Audlett Drive, although its main purpose is as a day centre and help centre for elderly people.

When you walk in through the main entrance – round the back where the white social service vans are parked – there is some 2010 artwork by the ceramics group who have a workshop at the centre.

I managed to get a picture of these two celebrities together. One is Terry Boswell, who appeared on Channel 4 as part of a docusoap, four in a bed. More about her at The Abbey Guest House .

Louisa turned on the lights this year. There was a good crowd despite the freezing conditions.

Helen and Douglas House won the best costumes, and Patisserie Pascal won the best window.

The event was sponsored by Scottish Widows, who run the Abbey Shopping Centre. Other sponsors were Mays (who run the out of town Fairacres Shopping Centre), the Chamber of Commerce, and Abingdon Town Council.

guess the weight of the Christmas Cake …

Amnesty International were on the Market Place encouraging people to send cards to prisoners of conscience.

On the Market Place, Dunmore playgroup were selling cakes to raise funds. So rather than buy a cake I just entered the competition to guess the weight of the Christmas Cake.
St Helens Fair
Both the Salvation army and St Helen’s Church had Christmas Bazaars this morning.  At St Helens I remember having a go on the raffle and talking to various people and I must have also had a go at guessing the weight of their Christmas Cake.

Some time later I got a phone call that I had guessed the right weight. This wondercake from St Helens is the result.
