Most of the Christmas lights in the town centre were off tonight. That could be because we are beyond Twelfth Night (5th December).

But some of the lights along Bath Street are still on.

According to wikipedia, there are some that count the 6th December as Twelfth Night because they start each new day at sunset, so Twelfth Night precedes Twelfth Day.

Anyway,  Christmas trees can be recycled on the Market Place on Saturday 8th January by a very friendly group of lads… or they can be taken to Millets Farm up to Saturday 15th January, or put out next to your brown bin if you pay for a brown bin.

No fresh snow but there is plenty of crusty snow from a week ago. The pavements are slippery.

Merry Christmas From Abingdon. This is possibly the first white Christmas we have seen in all the years we have lived here. (Pictures taken near Abingdon Lock. )

There was a new look to the Over 70s Christmas Party. NOt only did the Over 70s look younger, but this year the young Mayor of Abingdon wanted to jolly up the proceedings and so round tables replaced the long benches.

First half was Bingo, Raffle, and a quiz followed by food. Some of the town’s firemen helped as well as the usual town councillors.

Second half was the entertainment. Carswell School began with some animated singing.

Larkmead School followed.

Then the Abingdon ladies choir.

On the way out everybody was given a present, and the first edition of the Trinity Learning News – produced by six children from Carswell Primary School and featured a while back on this Abingdon blog.
