Abingdon Arts Festival usually brings in the Spring

Spring Late
I see from the front page of the Abingdon Herald that the Abingdon Arts Festival 2013 is Off. Not enough money! A quick look at google images (above) brings back some of the memories.

I am always impressed by the Abingdon Arts Festival Brochure (above). The website is equally good. Both are the work of Mike Ward. Mike has given his services for free for the town of Abingdon. As has Malcolm Ross who has co-ordinated the arts festival for 14 years. As have many other volunteers.

Over the years, The Abingdon Arts Festival has given this blog much to report on at the start of Spring.  Next Spring could get a slower start without those two weeks of: art, theatre, films, big crazy community events, photographic competitions, music, and celebrities.

Saturday Only

It has been raining most of Sunday as the weather forecast predicted.

For three or four weeks now, an event at Culham Park (over the River Thames from Abingdon) has been advertised around Abingdon on roadside signs.

The event combined Motocross with a family amusement event.

As the event neared, the weather forecast looked good for Saturday but bad for Sunday.

And so  “Saturday Only”  appeared on signs. The main events were switched to Saturday as the organisers did not want to fall victim to the weather. There was still Motocross on the rainy Sunday and could be seen from across the river.

As it happens they had a glorious Saturday at the Motocross and Kids Zone.

Sunday morning started overcast and then the rain set in and has continued until now. The forecasters and organisers got it right.
