The clocks in Abingdon were turned back an hour last night – at the end of British Summer Time. St Helen’s Church had already adjusted when I went out this morning.

The parking machines were just being changed back.

And St Nicolas Church had already been adjusted.

It was a lovely day with sunshine and lots of fallen leaves. I can hardly believe we are already into the fortnight of Halloween, fireworks, and Remembrance Day. 2015 is just flying by.

Brave members of the 2nd Abingdon Scouts had a gazebo on the Market Place, and were selling tickets for their annual fireworks that takes place behind Long Furlong Community Centre on Saturday 7th November. Gates Open at 6:30pm for fireworks starting some time later.

Members of the Abingdon Army Cadets were out in force selling poppies.

Undercover, at St Nicolas Church, Abingdon Artists had an exhibition.

A lot of people went to the second weekend of the Craft Fair at the Old Abbey Buildings.

There are also local crafts to be bought at Added Ingredients who have a display of local pottery.

There was a final workshop at the Community Space led by the Abingdon Flower Club before taking down their window display.

Our local Alzheimers Club has moved their excellent jumble sale to St Nicolas Church this year as the Guildhall is closed. By all accounts they had a very successful sale.

It is the first week of the Abingdon Contemporary Crafts for Christmas Show. This is the 44th consecutive year that this October craft fair has been at the Old Abbey Buildings, and will be back again next week, and next year.

The Abingdon Flower Club were putting together a display for the window of the Community Space in Bury Street. That will be there to view all next week.

The monthly Adfas lecture is at Trinity Church, as the Guildhall is closed. The subject is the ‘Medieval Illuminated Books of Hours’ by Christopher de Hamel. Wednesday 21st October either Morning 10.20 am or Afternoon 1.50 pm.

Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames Charity Quiz – Friday, 23rd October, 7:00pm-10:30pm at Long Furlong Community Centre.

On the Market Place this morning there was a Smoke Free Oxfordshire roadshow. They were signing up people who want to stop smoking in “Stoptober”. Stoptober is a national campaign encouraging people all across the country to stop smoking for 28 days (and beyond) from the 1st October. The team will also be on the Market Place for the next few Wednesdays.

A group of tandems were also seen coming through town on their way from Lambourn to Oxford. They are not a tandem club or anything official but thought it was just a good idea.

Guide dogs were to be seen about the town centre helping to raise money for training other guidedogs. We are at the start of Guide Dogs Week. Find out more from www.guidedogs.org.uk.
