Marina set alight by the sun, moon like an orange

River Views with reflections of heavenly bodies
Looking south from North Quay over Abingdon Marina with sun setting in west. Reflection off window apparently setting marina alight.

Many thanks for this interesting picture from Paul and Neil.
River Views with reflections of heavenly bodies
Boats moored on the River Thames across from Nags Head Island. The moon has set the River Thames ablaze with orange and gold.

The moon did look like an orange last night – more so than usual.

Football, Rugby Football, and Cricket today in Abingdon

Between Seasons
On the River Thames near Abingdon Bridge I saw this duck with 11 baby ducklings today – enough for a football team or a cricket team. They seem very late starters though for the cricket season.
Between Seasons
Today was the start of the football season and it fell on one of the hottest days of the summer. Abingdon Town were at home to Ascot and won 3-1. (Abingdon United’s first home game is on Tuesday at 7:45pm against Swindon Supermarine.)
Between Seasons
Today also saw the 57th running of the Rugby 7s competition at Abingdon Rugby Union Football Club.
Between Seasons
There were also two games of cricket at Abingdon Vale Cricket Club. The 2nd XI were playing Kimble, and theĀ 4th XI were playing Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd team. The audience is increased by members of the Caravan Club who camp round the pitches, and often come in to town to shops and restaurants.

Nag’s Head Refurbishment Begins / Salter Steamer Landing Changed

Nags Head Refurbishment Begins
As you enter Abingdon, the news board outside Goffs tells you … “Riverside Pub set to reopen doors.”
Nags Head Refurbishment Begins
Yesterday Spike sent me this picture from the river saying “Renovation going well and it’s fantastic to see all the metal shutters gone and life back into this historic Abingdon pub. Forecast to open mid September.”
Nags Head Refurbishment Begins
During the work, the landing stage for Salters Steamers has had to be moved to the Upper Reaches Hotel. This may be just until the landing area is made safe.
Nags Head Refurbishment Begins
On a warm summer’s day like today there were quite a few people swimming in the river, some out in the middle, who did not see the Salter’s Steamer to Oxford until very late.
Nags Head Refurbishment Begins
One of the strongest arguments put forward for keeping the open air pool, just a short distance from this shot, was that it would protect against drownings in the river.
