Oxfordshire Artweeks comes to Abingdon

Oxfordshire Artweeks
Oxfordshire Artweeks has already happened in Oxford City. We visited the exhibition in the cloisters behind St John the Evangelist Church, on the Iffley Road – a lovely setting with interesting exhibits including some by Caroline Harben of Abingdon. Her paintings included the County Hall in Abingdon,

and a view from the roof top of the county hall (abstract above, realistic below).

The exhibitions in Abingdon have now opened. They include the exhibition of many artists at Peachcroft Farm Barn.

When we were there we could watch art in action There was a potter inside, and a sculptor outside.

I also visited the Mind exhibition which ran for just one day.

Artworks included sculptures (head sculptures), collages and art works in acrylics and pastels; and a slide show of artwork in action. Children’s art was happening on the day, as well as music, a tombola, and cakes.

Oxfordshire Artweeks continues in Abingdon until Bank Holiday Monday.

Squashed Art

Before it got really hot
In Abingdon County Hall Museum there is an exhibition of objects crammed together into boxes and then rendered in great detail with coloured pencil artworks. This is the work of Oxfordshire Artist, Robert Strange. Most of the objects are very colourful and ordinary but made remarkable by the way they are squashed together.

You can also buy, in the museum shop, examples of the artwork on cushions, coasters, mugs, and cards.

I spotted this ‘Bansky’ in Abingdon today

Tired
I spotted this ‘Bansky’ in Abingdon today. I am guessing it is not an original or somebody would have made off with the bin.

In the underpass, mentioned yesterday, there is the official mural and an unofficial mural. The unofficial mural used to be quite dark and threatening but somebody has lightened it up with pastels.

Graffiti on small green BT boxes does not always get removed. This astronaut is a survivor.

On Abingdon’s oldest boarded up window, there is a new addition – next to the graffiti stencil.

The old building along Winsmore Lane is getting worked on and could soon be a ‘Such Cottage’.
