
Stert Street is being resurfaced – in places – overnight from 21st to 23rd Februray 2011. The road engineers have also drawn some little arrows down near the junction with Bridge Street so that would be good if they do add direction arrows at that point.

Old Cemetery – Kill Your Speed

A sign up Spring Road asks you to Kill Your Speed as you approach the Old Cemetery.

Inside the New Cemetery the pathways are being improved. They are to be resurfaced once the granite edging is done. I just hope the undertakers don’t try to break the land speed record in there.
Beneath Boxhill Walk

This picture is taken at the junction of Boxhill Walk and the Wootton Road. The recent snow and ice have taken off the surface to reveal what look like layers of concrete beneath.
In the housing estates, and the early dual carriageways, of the 1960s I remember seeing roads made from large concrete slabs with joins between. I suppose they got ashphalted over. Concrete roads are far less common now.
Bath Street – Major Resurfacing

The second thing different about Abingdon when we got back off holiday was that we were diverted away from Bath Street round Spring Road. Bath Street is in the middle of a two week major resurfacing.
The roads in Abingdon may have once all had such an unfinished look to them. That would have been back in the days when you could have ridden in on a coach and horses to the inn opposite.
