Bath Street – Major Resurfacing

Bath Street - Major Roadworks
The second thing different about Abingdon when we got back off holiday was that we were diverted away from Bath Street round Spring Road. Bath Street is in the middle of a two week major resurfacing.

The roads in Abingdon may have once all had such an unfinished  look to them. That would have been back in the days when you could have ridden in on a coach and horses to the inn opposite.

Looking More Cared For

At the end of June I said that West St Helen Street was the most uncared for street in Abingdon.

About a week later white boxes got drawn round the ruts and pot holes.

Then yesterday morning I awoke to the sound of road mending, and visited to take a picture. The workman thought I wanted the picture in order to complain because they had started so early.

“Far from it” I said, and returned this evening to take another picture, now the job is done.

Looks like the backlog is getting cleared now that the County Council have a new contractor.

Expect Delays

Severe Delays - Find Alternative Route
Resurfacing work is to take place on the Marcham Road this coming Saturday. The notice warns Severe Delays Expected – Find Alternative Route.

But it does not say from what time to what and having searched on google I am none the wiser so cannot advise whether you should risk going to Tesco or not.

This is the culmination of the work to cut a corner off the McDonalds Roundabout and ease the way into Colwell Drive.

The scheme got a bit controversial because a District Council Tree Officer slapped a tree protection notice on a Horse Chestnut tree and delayed the works.

Good to see that those Horse Chestnuts are still putting on a good show and the work is nearly complete.
