Honey Pot, Vodafone, Braggs, Outdoor Traders, & Spring Cycle Festival

Honey Pot
Peter sent me a picture showing that the Honey Pot closed their shop last Friday.

They thank all their customers, and say they will soon be trading on the internet, and will be appearing at local craft fairs. Their shop brightened West St Helen Street for the last five years.
Vodafone
Thanks to Andy for pointing out that there is a planning application for a new Shop Sign on Bury Street next to Greggs, for Vodafone Abingdon.
Braggs
Andy also says that his Grandma, Beryl Bragg passed away on Sunday 30th March. She was the wife of Norman Bragg who owned and ran the Braggs Cycle Shop. She was 99 years old and passed peacefully surrounded by family. The funeral service is on 10th April at 2.30pm at St. Helens Church. It was 100 years ago that Braggs moved into the premises on High Street, where Outdoor Traders now sell bikes.

By the way the Spring Abingdon Cycle Festival is on Sunday 13th April 2014.

This year’s Grand National and the Abingdon Betting Shops

This year’s Crabbie’s Grand National race will take place today (5th of April) at 4:15 p.m. at Aintree Racecourse, and is one of the high points of the year for Abingdon’s Betting shops.
Grand National
The two Ladbrokes in Abingdon (Bath Street and Stert Street) have notices reminding people to “Gamble Responsibly: Set you own limits and stay in control.“.
Grand National
Stan James say “Get Lucky. Best Odds Guaranteed.
Grand National
In the empty premises next door a notice says that William Hill have applied for a License under the Gambling Act 2005 to trade there, so they could well be competing for the Abingdon trade in next year’s Grand National.

I read The Guardian tips for the race which were all quite amusing to read. The last was for Swing Bill which is not strongly fancied … “Has had a couple of stabs at this race and not been good enough. Now he’s 13 and likely to be slower than ever. Would be a most surprising winner.

OX14 Deli closed

OX14 Deli Closed
The OX14 Deli has been closed for a couple of weeks now. The addition of a “To Let” sign confirms that our dedicated Bulgarian, Romanian, and Greek food outlet in Abingdon is now closed.

A notice in the windows says that the Bread, cooked presumably upstairs in the Greek restaurant, is now available at the Spar Supermarket two doors down.

Their next auction is March 8th.
