Both the Sun and Mirror had different ideas of what might follow a vote to leave the EU. Most of the Tabloids (Sun, Mail, Express, Star) have sided with the Leave side throughout the campaign. Only the Daily Mirror has been on the Remain Side.

Polling Stations were kept fairly busy here in Abingdon, as we put our cross on the voting paper: Leave or Remain in the EU.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the apocalypse, there was the official reopening of the Old Anchor Inn, at St Helen’s Wharf in Abingdon.

There was a warm atmosphere. The bar has been redecorated and looks bright. Bar staff brought round canapes. Good luck to them.

View of IKEA boat from Abingdon Bridge

We had a meeting today to plan this year’s Heritage Open Day (which is on September 10th). It will be 600 years since Abingdon Bridge was built in 1416. There will be talks, and exhibitions about Abingdon Bridge, and the museum are creating a large medieval event on the Market Place.

At Abingdon Bridge this evening one of the Salter Steamer boats was dressed up in unusual livery with the message ‘Your IKEA is Coming’.
IKEA will be downstream at Reading.
Keeping it Local

Abingdon Beds have been operating for over twenty five years at their current location in Spring Road. The building was once a chapel.

The Tower of London has been operating for over 1000 years, looking after famous and infamous prisoners. It is the keep of the Crown Jewels, and more recently has become a tourist attraction.
Spike recently moved from Abingdon to become the newest Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London. Thank to him for this picture ‘Keeping it Local!’
Budgens Northcourt to close on Tuesday – Co-op to return

The shelves of the Budgens store at Northcourt are emptying. Some lines are at half price as the shop prepares to close on Tuesday June 21st.

A poster in the window says the Co-op are recruiting and will be re-opening the store on this site in August 2016. This shop belonged to the Oxford and Swindon Co-operative Society before it became a Budgens in 1999. So the circle is nearly complete.
(Thanks to Alan for pointing out the previous Co-op history)
