Abingdon Town Council have again provided a summer display of blooms in the town centre’s flower beds, tub and planters.

There were some dry, sunny days during June. Watering the tubs and pole displays must be a daily activity.

The flags for the Coronation of King Charles are also still up. He will be in Scotland this Wednesday to be presented with the Honours of Scotland, the oldest crown jewels in Britain, kept at Edinburgh Castle.

St Ethelwold’s Garden (mid May)

Mid May, the secret crocheter has a gardening theme.
It is the third Friday of the month and there is a Farmer’s Market with a stall selling plants.

St Ethelwold’s Garden is open to explore. It is looked after by volunteer gardeners. People who enjoy the garden can leave donations that help pay for plants.
There are lots of Aliums mid May.

Irises are abundant.

These Clematises climb up part of the wall as you enter the garden, along with Wisteria,

and figs.

There are lots of pretty flowers and attractive leaves. Pink Sorrel has both.

There are cultivated varieties of plants and flowers, and wildflower areas. Wildflowers, like Green Alkanet, are great for bees and butterflies. My wife told me that bees prefer wildflowers.
Abingdon Horticultural Society – 2023 Spring Show

Thanks to Janet, who sent me a poster to say that the Abingdon Horticultural Society Spring Show is this Saturday at the Northcourt Centre.

There is a lovely show of spring flowers outside the offices at St Helen’s Church. The lady who maintains that small garden keeps a colourful display all year round.
The first daffodil of the year?

Martin spotted this daffodil by the road to Rye Farm by the Kingfisher Barn yesterday. He asks if it is the first daffodil of the year.

There are early daffodils near the bowls club in Albert Park, but the first ones are not fully open.
