The Saving of Crazy Golf

Abingdon Boat Centre
Over the four day, double bank holiday, weekend the sun shone constantly once the Royal Wedding was over. Boats could be hired from The Abingdon Boat Centre on Nags Head Island.
Abbey Meadows Golf
Abbey Meadows golf and tennis facilities were also open over the weekend, with either crazy golf

or pitch and putt. As you may remember back in January, the Vale District Council was looking for possible savings given the reduced grant from central government and the golf and tennis was put forward as a possibility.  So it is good to see the golf saved.

Abingdon Youth Football Club wins higher award

Abingdon Youth Football Club
Congratulations to Abingdon Youth Football Club on gaining Charter Standard Development Club Status. This is a further development from an earlier award and demonstrates the club has even better trained coaches, good management, and cares for the young people who train with the club, with teams at several different age ranges. The award was presented by the Chair of the Berks and Bucks Football Association to Chris Day (Youth Development Officer).
Abingdon Youth Football Club
The club was founded in 1963, and moved to its current ground in Lambrick Way in 1985. Thousands of young people have already been trained by the club, and thousands more will probably train there in years to come.

Not on the pitch

Boxhill Rec
At Boxhill Recreation Ground there are three football pitches used by the boys, and girls, of St Edmunds Football Club.
Boxhill Rec
Round the pitch area are four dogbins, the highest concentration of dogbins anywhere in Abingdon.

There are also three notices – including this one next to the Workhouse wall – requesting

“DOG OWNERS
PLEASE EXERCISE YOUR
DOGS AROUND THE EDGE
OF THE FIELD
DO NOT USE THE PITCH AREA”

But before every match or practice the pitches need to be cleared of dog pooh so the children can play football there.
