Moving a historic wall

Historic Wall
I gather from the Vale planning portal that a historic stone wall has been demolished off Bath Street and will be rebuilt in a set back position.
Historic Wall
Vehicles will no longer need to drive through Abingdon School to get to Lacies Court, a property that is part of the school. Instead there will be access from Bath Street with a double garage.

Before the wall is rebuilt, the access from Bath street will also allow construction traffic to work on a new three story educational building that is planned.

Behind Alison Clare

Energy Efficient
Down the narrow alleyway behind the Alison Clare Hair Studio, at the top of the Vineyard, there was once a 1970’s commercial building.
Energy Efficient
The building was last used commercially by a supplier of energy efficient boilers. It was also used, during the 2015 general election, as the HQ of the local Lib-Dems.
Energy Efficient
The building stood alongside other commercial buildings until Penlon moved and the area behind became ‘Penlon Place’.

After redevelopment it could become ‘Lib-Dem Place’ if previous usage counts.

Bellingers Retirement Home

Thanks to Charlie for the following.
Bellingers Retirement
“I’d firstly like to thank you for your excellent blog highlighting so many really wonderful things and organisations the town and it’s people have to offer. As a relatively new arrival to Abingdon it really has helped us settle in to the town and given us an insight into the community and the events on that are so very hard to find when you move to a new place.

I’m sure your not short of posts but we live near the Bellinger garage and have just become aware the planning application by Churchill retirement homes for 39 retirement apartments has been submitted. The application can be found at …

As it happens I was short of posts after 4 days away, and work is very busy at the moment. And so it was very helpful.
Bellingers Retirement
On a personal note I got rid of the Corsa when Bellingers moved, and bought a Panda from the local Fiat dealer instead.

I used to use that same Hartwell garage when they sold and serviced Rovers. The Rover logo has long since gone, as have the petrol pumps and convenience store.

Revisiting Harry’s walk to Drayton

A lot has changed in the last year or two on one of Harry’s old dog walks. (I once did a blog called harrydogblog.com featuring Harry.)
New Houses
Walking along the ridge of the dog walking field, next to Masefield Recreation Ground, the new houses of Morland Gardens can be seen down below.
New Houses
Another development can also be seen over the fields. The new houses of Walnut Meadow are now visible as the distance between Abingdon and Drayton shrinks.
New Houses
The first houses of Walnut Meadow, already with people in, stand alongside the bridleway that leads from Mill Road in Abingdon to Drayton.
New Houses
There are also houses starting to grow next to the farm track that forms a circular walk back to Abingdon.

Looking at the Walnut Meadow development plans I see there is a large space for future sports pitches and a pavilion. Drayton are getting something of community value from their development.
