It looks like building work is about to start in the fields to the north of Abingdon. The earth movers are making a road to take lorries from the Wootton Road.

There is no sign of the south facing slips roads on the A34. They are funded by this building work to try to prevent Abingdon’s local traffic getting worse.

Here is a picture of the Drayton Road in South Abingdon at the weekend, where housing was put in without road improvements.

Work on the cycle path through Abbey Meadow – part 2
A number of trees have been cut down as part of the start of the work on the cycle path through Abbey Meadow

There is a much clearer view along the Mill Stream now on the one side.

Work is now underway widening and improving the cycle way.
Landmark Crane has gone

The crane that has became such a landmark on the Abingdon skyline has just been moved from the development on Ock Street.
Iain sent me the news together with some pictures of the crane’s best moments – viewed from his bedroom window.

1. Removing the main horizontal arm of the crane (with a mobile crane).

2. Hoisting a large cage.

I went out to view the development this morning, in the rain, and saw for myself that the crane has gone.

The name Albert Lodge is plain to see above the crane-less building.
Ongoing building work in Abingdon

The ex Vauxhall dealership – Bellinger – have almost completed their transformation into Churchill retirement apartments.

Reserving Now signs have replaced Caution – Reversing Vehicles.

The second half of the Fairacres redevelopment has metal cladding and a roof line that looks dead level from the car park side,

and from Nuffield Way.
The old red pillar box has been kept in place during the demolition and building work. It is held up on a plug of concrete until building work is complete.
