Demolition work continues on the Old Gaol – clearing all the out houses and bringing the building back to its core.

New views appear as walls and buildings are cleared away. This view is from Nag’s Head Island to the County Hall. The view will be hidden again when new residential buildings are put in place of the old.

The view to the Old Gaol from the river is also being cleared of some vegetation.

Eventually it will look something like the architectural model.

Afraid of heights? If so come and join us on and throw yourself out of an aeroplane. The Mayor will be doing it, and he is looking for others to do the same. All done for the The Firebrigade’s Charity and Abingdon Bridge Drop In Centre. More info on this direct link.
I hope to be joining him so if you see me round town I’ll be glad of some sponsors.
New High Street Bus Shelter

With no seats or side panels the new bus shelter on the High Street, has a ‘small footprint’, and looks designed to not block the pavement.
Albert Park Seats
A month or so ago there was a letter to the Abingdon Herald…
Sir, I notice that the last bench bordering the southern path in Albert Park has been removed. This leaves only two in the whole park…

There was this, the only remaining example of the benches that used to be all round the park…

and this one donated from Steventon Railway Station in 1986.
A reply came from Christs Hospital, the Abingdon Charity, that look after the park.
For many years the benches have suffered from vandalism and repairs have been carried out…

Two metal benches, from our almshouse gardens, have been installed…
But, during the last 12 months in particular, the vandalism has been to such an extent that some benches were beyond repair and so had to be removed…
We are looking at purchasing some replacement benches and two local people have offered to fund the purchase of a bench each. Any further donations for this purpose will be most welcome.
