The View through Sue Ryder’s Window

From Sue Ryders Window
Last week there was a window display in the Sue Ryder shop to celebrate Diwali – the most well-known of the Hindu festivals. I think we should be saying ‘Happy Diwali’ today but the display has already moved on to Halloween. That small side window regularly reflects the changing seasons.

Through the side window can be seen a row of taxis. Taxi ranks are soon to change in Abingdon. Elsewhere in town double yellow lines are to be blasted away to give additional spaces for taxis, but outside Sue Ryder the taxi rank is to be replaced by a loading bay for the museum, and an additional residents’ parking place.

Free Parking Consultation Ends Friday

The current car parking charges would look strange to a visitor … £1.20 for 3 hours and £3.10 for 4 hours. Things are about to change …
Car Park Consultation
The proposed changes include:

  • the introduction of a ‘no charge’ period of two hours
  • the need to display a ticket to park for free
  • no return to the car park for another free period
  • the charge period – the time when a ticket must be displayed – changing from 8-4pm to 8-6pm
  • charges for parking periods of more than two hours to rise by 30p
  • an increase in permit charges by 6%

Car Park Consultation
There is a consultation on these changes which end this Friday 21 October 2011 at 4:30 PM.

New Notice Board at Reynolds Way shops

New Notice Board
A new noticeboard has appeared at Reynolds Way shops, near the murals – a place where it hs always been difficult to display information about community events. The cost of the notice board was probably more than doubled by planning application costs. It is not that the district council are making money out of such community projects, but each planning application has to be fairly considered to find whether there are any objections that are against local planning regulations …

  • Letters asking for comments were sent out,
  • Documents needed compiling and loading to the internet,

New Notice Board

  • Site visits and an officer report had to be written and presented at the Abingdon area development control committee.

The planning application went through and so the noticeboard is now there, thanks to Sovereign Vale Housing and SARP.

To get your community information on that space, try dropping it in at …
