High Street and Ock Street were closed from this morning for the setup of the fair. Locals came to walk and cycle and scoot the length of the fair to see the rides.

Let us hope the good weather holds out and that it will be good fair with no accidents. The best advice, if you chance to enter the maze of mirrors, is ‘walk slow with hands in front of you’.

Stay young at heart and believe that dreams can come true, but never forget there are pirates about.

Don’t bang your head getting into the Minion Tour bus.

The world is your teacup.

Should your fairground horse escape enjoy the free ride.

River Ock Duck Race

There was a Duck Race on the River Ock yesterday. The owner of the winning duck received a Kindle Fire.

Thanks to Elizabeth for the pictures. The event was organised as a fund raising venture by Thames Water for the Helen and Douglas House hospice.

Thames Water employees were holding events in 8 of the Helen and Douglas House charity shops during the day for fund raising and to help their own customers.
Michaelmas Fair
Michaelmas, or the Feast of Michael and All Angels, is celebrated on the 29th of September every year. It celebrates the Angel of Light who slayed a dragon.
Michaelmas daisies bloom late into September, and beyond, and bring late colour to gardens, as seen here at St Michael’s Church.

In Abingdon, not far from the Church of St Michael and All Angels, the annual Abingdon Michaelmas Fair takes place early in October each year.
On 2nd September 1752 people went to bed, and when they woke up it was 14th September. The dates had changed to be the same as the rest of Europe. Since that time the Abingdon Michaelmas Fair has happened on the Monday before the 11th October instead of the Monday before the 30th September.

At the fair pedestrians can walk safely down the middle of Ock Street and High Street between the fairgrounds rides.

Smoke breathing vehicles are banished for three days by the angels of light.
The Big Conversation Abingdon Roadshow – Wednesday 19 October

There are big changes in the way health services are to be delivered and Monica had to request that a Roadshow came to Abingdon as the second largest town in the county.
The NHS in Oxfordshire is calling on young people, parents, patients, carers and people who live and work in Oxfordshire to have their say on how health care is delivered. They are seeking your views on how local GP, community and hospital services should develop so that services are of high quality, closer to home, more convenient with better access and can overcome a £200m funding gap by 2020/21.
The event will be a ‘drop in’ style and staff will be available to have an informal chat with you to share ideas on how NHS services in Oxfordshire can deliver high quality care now and in the future. The Big Conversation Abingdon Roadshow will be held on Wednesday 19 October 9.30am to 4pm – Abingdon Community FreeSpace Shop, Bury Street (opposite H. Samuel).
Staff will be available to answer your questions between 10am and 2pm, outside of those times please feel free to pop in and pick up some information.
