Ock Mini Park

Back in 1982 it was intended as a Carpark.

But since then it has lost its way. It is the area of ground at the junction of Drayton Road and Marcham Road. There are bins, seats, gravel, some trees, and a view over the river Ock. The area has been cleared in the last month. There is a mound of earth where a tree grows.

It is not accessible by car, although cars whiz close by. It may be of some use for people who need a rest walking by on their way to the hospital, or coming back from Tesco with bags of shopping.

It is a place, going through a quiet spell, but just waiting to happen.

Mostly Books

A new book shop has appeared. Last time I looked “& More Ingredients” was there in Stert Street but it has morphed into a bookshop without any noticeable interruption in trading. Pots and pans and spice racks have been transforming into books with each passing day

Abingdon Sports

Abingdon Sports shop on the high street was called Touchwood Sports until earlier this year. Touchwoods have been selling sports equipment and camping gear since the 1960s in various premises around Abingdon, and off the Abingdon Road in Oxford.

Earlier this year, the Touchwoods retired, and Michael Samways, the manager, has taken over – renaming the shop Abingdon Sports. As you can see during this wimbledon fortnight tennis is the theme. Today is the mens final between Nadal and Federer. It is also the World Cup Final between France and Italy.
