Well we have not forgotten that Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the houses of parliament on 5th November 1605 and we still burn his effigy on the bonfire, and have fireworks on November 5th. Nowadays it is not just November 5th. Its generally from about October 30th until about November 7th, and the biggest bangs are on the nearest Saturday – which was lastnight. The firework, with its nose in the ground, has the Abbey Meadow Poplars as a backdrop .
And the remnants of this £89.99 box, of Chinese Deep Impact fireworks, was next to the rubbish bin at Barrow Hills Recreation Ground. Barrow Hills was still in one piece!!!
Tonight there were bonfires and plenty of fireworks whistling and banging, but they were like average meterorites after yesterdays DEEP IMPACT. This picture shows a firework exploding behind Caldecott Primary School.
In town, there was less going on than in the estates round about. In fact the brightest lights in town were M & Co.
M & Co were working late, re-arranging the layout and window displays. By morning it also had some sparkly Christmas decorations.

In the Kings Head and Bell this evening, George Haslam with the baritone Sax on the left was playing with two friends from Argentina. The music was part jazz and part Argentinian including an unusual inflatable keyboard.

As the evening wore on, the room became crowded out by young and old. Great Stuff.

Two groups have been promoting their displays. Both today(and not the 5th).

Organised Chaos are holding a fireworks display at Abbey Meadows. Gates open 5.00p.m. Display starts 7.00pm

2nd Abingdon Scout Group are holding a fireworks celebration at Long Furlong Community Centre, Boulter Drive. Gates open 6.30p.m. Free parking at Tilsley Park.

This morning organised chaos were preparing the area for the firework display. The water feature was cordoned off, and the Abbey grounds near to the river was made ready for the crowd.
The fireworks were set off from Hayles Meadow, and for those lucky to be in front there were nice reflections. Or even for those on the bridge who didn’t pay. Unhappily my pictures have not turned out that well. This one shows some red sparks that look like space invaders heading towards the moon.
And the final big boom looks like a pink Dahlia. I hope other people had more luck.

When I passed the game, everybody seemed to be argueing. Even the spectators were on the pitch trying to join in.

It was a top of the table tie (North Berks League – Division 1). Saxton Rovers were second and Lambourn third in the table.

The row was ended when the referee showed one player a yellow card, and the one keeper shouted to his team “Stop messing about and start playing football!”
