At the weekend, cream teas were served, in the back yard of Twitty’s, to raise money for Abingdon Community Hospital.

There was also a raffle, drawn by the Chair of the Vale of White Horse District Council.

I’ve just been to the web site of the company that owns this lorry. They recycle lamps. It says ‘Did you know…

That the mercury from just one fluorescent tube can pollute 30,000 litres of water beyond a safe level for drinking? … Makes you think!’

So I guess we had better be a bit careful in days to come after the recycling lorry shed and smashed hundreds of fluorescent tubes all over the Vineyard.

Love Parks Week runs from 14th – 22nd June. Maybe it is more of a city event than a Market Town event.

The monument to Prince Albert would not look out of place in the centre of a great city park. Abingdon once had aspirations of grandeur.

Albert Park in Abingdon is still a great park.

In Barton Fields the sound of motorbikes could be heard – much louder than the bike or two often heard near Radley Lakes.

By the river the roaring got louder, and very soon the event could be seen, between nettles, trees, and reeds – a twisting up and down circuit on the opposite side.

Going as far as the Railway Bridge the sound followed, until one of the race heats finished.
